Our Story

Introducing Bradshaw Smoot and his wife, Maycee — the team behind The Local Butcher in Elizabethtown. With over 20 years of farming experience, Bradshaw has been growing crops, raising cattle, and now, alongside Maycee, “raising the steaks” on what local meat should be.  

The Local Butcher is dedicated to offering exceptional, locally sourced beef and pork to the Elizabethtown community. The foundation of The Local Butcher is a deep understanding of animal husbandry and years of practical experience in raising and developing high-quality livestock. Building on careful herd development and expertise in finishing cattle, it was realized that the superior product being produced needed to be shared. 

For over two decades, the focus has consistently been on combining genetic and phenotypic traits to produce a reliable and outstanding product. Experience in feeding cattle, along with insights from the nutrition team, ensures that every cut of meat meets stringent quality standards. 

Recognizing a clear need for a local source of fresh, high-quality beef and pork in Elizabethtown, The Local Butcher was established to fill that void and become a destination and experience for consumers. The Local Butcher is committed to transparent sourcing, supporting local farmers, and offering a wide variety of cuts and products that reflect dedication to both time-honored traditions and innovative butchery.
